*unedited teaser (flashback)*
I sat in the back of class as Ms. Simmons held up a plastic cup full of dirt, a green stem topped by two leaves protruded from the rim. I stuck my pointer finger in my cup and felt around in the dirt for my seed that had failed to flourish but came up empty. My eyes danced over Katie’s hair that cascaded in dark waves over the back of her chair, the very color of the barren soil. I reached out with dirty fingers and slid them between the silky strands. It was even softer than I had imagined. A lopsided grin spread across my face just as Katie turned, scowling in disgust and crumbling my spirit.
“Ew! You got dirt in my hair!”
So I did what any twelve year old boy would do when faced by his crush, I gripped her hair tightly in my hand and yanked until she squealed. Fat, salty tears dripped from her emerald, leaf-colored eyes and rolled over her pink cheeks as the entire room turned to glare at me and time froze to a painful halt.
My hand fell free from her tresses as I averted my gaze to my own cup of dirt on my desk. No green leaves grew like they had from the others. It was a bad seed, just like me. I’d watered it like I was told, turned the cup daily in the window sill to make sure it was getting the right amount of light, but like everything else I tried, I failed. I had no idea that this moment would become the catalyst of an obsession that would haunt me for the entirety of my life. My cup would never be full.

He can have any woman he wants and they will do anything to be with him. He uses and abuses them like drugs and tosses them out with the trash. The only thing he gives a f*ck about is his music. That is, until Ella Lighten walks into his life and stumbles upon one of his darkest secrets. In the midst of doing damage control, he begins to obsess over the mysterious woman who wants absolutely nothing to do with him.
Rellik won’t take no for an answer.
I get messages daily fron authors wanting me to read ARCS and newly released novels. I wish I had the time to read them all. There simply aren't enough hours in the day. I try to get to as many as I can when I do have free time. If you'd like to send a copy, ebooks can be sent to Teresa_mummert@yahoo.com with EBOOK ARC in the subject line. Announcement: Unfortunately my husband's schedule has changed and the military does not give us much notice. I will not be able to make it to Book Bash this year. It breaks my heart to have to cancel, but ultimately family comes first. I hope you all understand. I will be setting up a way to order signed books directly from me because of this. <3 Next time, Gadget. Next time. ;)
I am very lucky to have a career that I love. I know this. But it is a career. It is how I help feed my children, buy them school clothes and hopefully send them off to college. Just because I have a job I enjoy, does not mean I should do it for free. In this business we trust a lot of people we never get to meet in person. Agents, publishers, editors, readers and book blogs all make up this crazy community.
We come from all walks of life. I'm a mother and an army wife. My path wasn't easy and I'm glad it wasn't. You appreciate life more when you have to work hard. I've also made incredible friends that are worth their weight in gold. I've also met those who wouldn't bat an eye at taking advantage or steal from us. So this is my story of one such encounter.
I was contacted by a concerned reader.
Immediately a red flag went up. There is really no reason for a blog to ever need to send a file for a book to someone's kindle. She also sent the message to prove it.
Alright. Now I am a little worried, but hopeful someone is just confused. It is pretty obvious when you have been gifted a copy from Amazon, or just sent a file. Still, I gave the benefit of the doubt. This is my message to the blog.
I got a response from Blogger 1 (there are two) This is also where the drinking game begins. For every time you read 'liaise' take a shot. I know I need one.
Hmm... Alright. That is two shots if you're counting. ;)
The convo jumps from the blog page talking to my profile, to the blogger #1 talking to my LIKE page. Get that next shot ready.
Drink your shot. I'll wait. So I sent the blogger the proof from the reader to show her what I meant. She was talking in circles and I obviously am aware this is no accident. During this time, the reader sent me the email with the attachment of my novel.
This hurts my heart.
Sounds good. Sounds like this person had no idea what was going on. Then I heard back from the reader.
An error? How do you accidentally pirate books? I decided to make it right.
After all that has happened, I am being more than nice. All I want is for someone to admit what they've done and apologize.
All I wanted was an apology from blogger #2 since she was the one who supposedly was the one who did this.
I waited for hours. This entire ordeal took about 9 hrs. I really wanted to hear from the other blogger. So I messaged blogger #1
This upset me. I'm not going to lie. I just wanted an apology from the one responsible. I had two choices. I could tell the world or report to the higher ups. I played a card.
That wasn't even taken seriously. My message from #2 came at 8:07 pm, but at least now I had her last name.
Time Out!!! No one has any business running a blog if they can't comprehend the difference between gifting and stealing. This gives all bloggers a bad name. Still... all I wanted was an apology. I wasn't getting that. I was getting one blaming the other and pretending to be the hero. Honestly, I was getting pissed. I had been nothing but kind. I only wanted them to admit that they had done this and apologize. One of them had to realize they were busted and now was a good time to fess up.
At this point, I was upset. Neither would take responsibility. Both chose to be the hero while blaming the other. I replied with this to #2
It was only fair to let #1 know that #2 was throwing her under the bus. Ya' know, just like she did to #1.
In the end, #2 let me know she understood what it felt like to be stolen from, but did it anyway. I found it very hard to sympathize with someone who had been taken advantage of, and still decided to do it to others. Too little, too late.
The only regret in this was being caught. I only wanted a sincere apology with an honest confession. Instead I caught two thieves willing to blame each other. Sad.
For the love of books, all I wanted was for one of them to say "I did it and knew what I was doing." Such is life.
***The reason I did not reveal the names was because I didn't want this to turn into a hateful attack on the bloggers. I want readers to be aware of what is going on so this will stop. If you receive a book in this way, contact the author.****
Just an update. I chatted late last night with one of these bloggers and we had a really great talk. She's a very kind person. I told her that if she chose to start another blog I would be there to support her. People make mistakes. Please don't think everyone is doing this. But shit happens. No one is perfect. It was pointed out to me that I had made a video on youtube using footage from a yr or two ago. I didn't even realize it was still there but I removed it. It's the same thing. There is no excuse. We all use songs, video, pictures, memes every day on the internet. So I am certainly going to be more aware of what I am posting and sharing. It is upsetting and hurtful to have things done to you personally, and because of that I will be more aware of what I do in the future. I hope instead of this causing a witch hunt, people just choose to make changes for the better.
